Sites such as youtube and others offer a free place for people to upload, watch, and listen to music and videos. Many people get addicted to these sites and spend hours and days watching and listening to media uploaded. Sites such as youtube are a common everyday word, any college age or younger generation know it. "Did you see that video?" "Go look at it on youtube."
These sites offer a great service to people, and it is not at all bad if you go to these sites and watch or listen to media. However if you find yourself losing track of time or are constantly on these sites perhaps you have an addiction. Don't put off other things and say you will do them later, do them first before going to these sites, this will help you with your addiction.
As technology has played a more increasing role in our daily lives, I believe that we are more likely, every single one of us, to spend time on media sites like YouTube. We are constantly on social networking sites, and these media sites go hand in hand with one another. You are able to post videos from YouTube onto Facebook. Honestly, the primary thing I use my computer for is to watch videos and listen to music, but I would not consider myself addicted to these sites that provide music and videos. With this being said, I do feel that sites like these are playing maybe too much of a role in society. There is always someone talking about a video they saw online.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comment. While I don't feel as though I'm addicted I do think there is definately a large amount of people who can't seem to pull themselves away. Maybe not because they have an addiction, but because everything they keep finding online seems so much more interesting then things they would find in their own life. The problem then arises that people are wanting to be something they are not and with the internet so easily accessed it is easy to pretend your life is better then it really is. People quite literally need to get out and have their own lives.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see a trend of people I know spending massive amounts of time in one sitting on youtube and other similar sites. Personally, I only watch a video if I see it uploaded onto facebook and there's a ton of comments, or if I'm watching the news on tv and they happen to mention something interesting. I realize I can quickly be drawn to stuff like that on the internet so I purposely try and steer clear. That pinterest site could have me hooked for hours, so I just stay away. I think as long as websites in general are being used in moderation or for a constructive purose everyone should be just fine. This goes with everything in life.
ReplyDeleteI know a lot of people who spends hours and hours on these sites. I know that sometimes it interferes with peoples daily activities finding themselves spending the whole nights on these sites. I also have spent a good amount of time on these sites before. I know once you start youtubing one thing you can't stop, but I don't see it being a huge problem. People just need to use it in moderation and things will be fine.
ReplyDeleteIt is very common to be at a large party and have youtube up playing the music for the group or even providing some humorous entertainment. But also more recently I have been in the class room lecture setting and I have found my professors using youtube as a very helpful visual aid! Youtube is a helpful instrument but I guess you just need to decide when and where it is appropriate.

I currently realized I was addicted to www.worldstarhiphop.com its like a youtube for hip hip artist, but after I nearly failed my finance exam I quit, "cold turkey". Happy Thanksgiving! Keep your priorties in check people!
ReplyDeleteI agree with many of the previous people who have commented. So many people in today's society surf YouTube daily for random videos. They watch a video and then click on a video that pops up on the side, over and over again. I usually don't visit YouTube unless I am looking for something in particular. This could become an addiction easily.
ReplyDeleteThat was a nice advice. I do not spend much time using internet but when I receive an email or a message from a friend about a video that was posted on YouTube I tend to spend more than an hour watching the related videos without me noticing the lost time. I do not believe that I have internet addiction but I hate it when something little that should take 45 second to watch ends up spending a whole hour searching for more.
ReplyDeleteIt interesting how little thing so do from time to time become a full blown way of life. I know i personally have gone night surfing netflix's and allowing things lapse that I'm suppose to get completed.I think social media plays a big part in that with go check this out as stated in the post.
ReplyDeleteI feel like people just care to much about these dumb videos and are wasting precious life away watching them. Yeah youtube is good for some things but to watch 30 second clip videos all day of random stuff is pointless. I think internet addiction is a complete fraud, you have complete control to choose your interest and hobbies. There is no one forcing people to watch these videos all day.
ReplyDeleteI actually agree that websites such as Youtube can be addicting but are most people really addicted to music and movies or are they just interested in whats new. There is always something new and exciting coming out especially with a site such as Youtube were pretty much anyone can post something. Some people spend all day on Facebook and Myspace too are they all addicts? I also believe that majority of the people using sites such as these are teenagers and people in their 20s with age and maturity I think people send less and less time with such activities.
