Lets Check Out Internet Porn

Since we didn't discuss this topic during our presentation I figured that we could explore it a little now in our blog.

Although it is somewhat taboo to talk about, I think most of us know that Internet porn is a big industry and easily accessed online. But, is it really a big problem? Studies have been completed on the topic, however, it has not been researched nearly as much as other addictions.

The signs of Internet pornography addiction are similar to the signs for the other addictions we have talked about on this blog. Here are the two big signs

  • Spending exorbitant amounts of time viewing adult material
  • Neglecting commitments/relationships to view internet pornography
Watching porn releases dopamine into the brain which gives humans the feeling of happiness or euphoria and which can lead to addictive tendencies. After a while of excessive internet porn use, there will be a drop in dopamine receptors causing a numbed pleasure response. This can make ordinary life seem boring and in extreme case bring on symptoms of depression.

While pornography isn't going away, moderation, as with all things in life, is key to keeping your mind and body healthy.

  1. It is suprising that the percentage of addicts is increasing all over the world. And because of freedom available it is difficult to stop it because it is a choice.Individuals retain the the power and right to watch what they feel like.

  2. I think at some point in time there was a show on tv about people that where addicted to porn. Not just internet porn but magazines and other types. They found though that it was more difficult to help addicts stop because you couldn't just take a persons computer away seeing as know a days people need their computer almost daily. I think the major reason internet addiction of any kind is difficult to deal with because the internet has become such a large part of normal life.

  4. It is not surprisng that pornography isn't going away. It is extremely easy for anyone to have access to a pronography website. In addition to the numerous web pages, I believe that the media plays a big role in actually steering people to pornography websites. These days, everything in the media seems to be related to sex somehow. If the media was more careful with their message to adults and teens, people might not find access to pornography so easily.
